Happy Imbolc

Happy Imbolc! Also known as Candlemas, today we celebrate the rebirth of the Sun and the first stirrings of Spring. After yesterdays down pour of snow and gray skies, it feel so appropriate that the Sun is shining bright in Colorado, on the day we celebrate its rebirth!

The short days of Winter are almost behind us and the longer days of Spring are on the way.
This holiday is celebrated with fire to remind us that we will have warmth in our lives again. In todays culture this may not seem very relevant since we no longer plant crops and grow food for survival but to our ancestors this was a very sacred time. It represented hope to those who were struggling to survive Winter. It was a holiday of promise that there would be life and abundance once again.

To honor the changing of the seasons it is custom to light every lamp and candle in the house if only for a few minutes to honor the coming of longer days, which brings more light. As you enjoy the warmth of the burning candles think about what you want to give birth to this Spring. Are you looking to create abundance in your life, find a more fitting job or work more on your spiritual self? Do you want to use your body to its highest potential or expand your mind? Now is the time to plant those seeds in your metaphysical garden so they can grow in sync with the seasons.

Enjoy this beautiful and hopeful holiday and remember to give thanks for all the wonderful things in your existence!

XOXO Chelsea

Fire and The Suit of Wands

Fire has two faces, it can be a motivating asset or it can be total destruction. Fire is a combustible element created by action, in the tarot it’s a metaphor for the consequences that come from our decisions. Fire is most beneficial when it is controlled, but it has a mind of its own and must be used with care. Fire is beautiful when it inspires us to higher levels of passion, creativity and is the fuel for ambition. But this element can have a dark side making one quick to anger and prone to having explosive relationships. Fire can change its course in a moments notice and loves adventure. If you are with a Fire sign don’t expect to keep them cooped up at home all the time. Being the most mystical element it senses the world through intuition and instinct, those fueled by fire are more willing to take risks than other elements. Fire doesn't think, it acts. Fire shines naturally and gives those associated with it a strong sense of self.

Fire is also connected to the Sun, Mars and Jupiter. The Sun is our self, ego and personality; this is everything inside of you and what you project to the world. Mars represents passion, ambition and drive which explains the extroverted and hard working characteristics of Fire signs. Expansion, adventure and travel all fall under Jupiter’s domain. Fire embodies all of this in the nature of a Fire sign to roam and expand its domain. Fire is spirit. It is what we are all made of at our core.

Suit of Wands:

Wands are associated with the Element Fire and represent the qualities and personality traits of the three fire signs in the zodiac: Aries, Leo and Sagittarius.

Keywords: Action/Vitality

This suit is short tempered and ready to rumble! Wands are passionate, active and impatient. Conflicts and physical challenges bring the suit of wands to life! Wands can be very focused and hard working, but they like to see results. If they don’t, they are likely to pursue something else. Wands people would rather die on their feet than live life on their knees. Wands people are not made to sit at a desk all day unless you’re inducing them into a depression. Wand energy is forthright, assertive and unafraid of conflict. This suit is very transparent in the sense of what you see is what you get.

Mercury in Retrograde

Mercury goes retrograde starting today (Jan21 - Feb 11) in Aquarius. It seems like even people who are not into Astrology have heard of the dreaded Mercury in retrograde but Im here to put it into perspective. Just like anything we don't really understand we tend to fear it. I see Mercury retrograde as a willing or forced reflection period, depending on how in tune you are.

The world we live in glorifies busyness, but our inner self craves stillness so when Mercury goes into retrograde things come to a screeching halt and we are asked to reassess, reevaluate, and restart whatever we are working on or towards at that time. Mercury in Retrograde takes us off the treadmill and encourages us to seek out our own true path and direction.

There is no doubt that communication is harder, people are misunderstood and electronics can sometimes go on the fritz, but those are all little flags trying to get your attention to address deeper issues. If we embrace Mercury retrograde with a willingness to dig deeper and change directions great things can come out of this three week period.

Here are my personal tips for making your Mercury Retrograde as great as possible:

  • Back up your computer and any other electronics (just in case)
  • Take time to meditate on your goals and direction in life
  • When communications come up rise to the occasion and figure it out without getting emotional
  • Write down any ideas you have during this phase you never know what could really turn into something
  • Make lists to help you stay organized and on top of your daily life
  • Take care of anything you have let slip through the cracks or neglected since the new year started
  • Try to complete projects you have already started as opposed to starting new ones
  • Read the fine print in any situation and try to avoid signing contracts
  • Listen to your instincts and intuition
  • Change how you perceive Mercury retrograde in your mind! Make it a positive!

New Moon in Aquarius

The New Moon in Aquarius is tonight!

What does that mean Chelsea?? Well, let me tell you all about it… On the New Moon, the Moon and Sun are in the same astrological constellation. This phase of the Moon represents the beginning of the planting cycle. This is the time to lay down your seeds (thoughts, goals, and desires) to manifest them over the course of this lunar cycle or several.

With the New Moon in Aquarius now is a good time to take a penetrating look at you life and decide what can stay and what needs to go! Allow yourself to detach from things that are no longer good for you without guilt! Your New Moon celebrations do not have to be solitary either, get with a friend and talk about the changes you want to bring about in your life!

I personally set up a New Moon alter and wrote down all my intentions for the current lunar cycle. Im going to keep my list on my alter as an offering and reminder of what I'm trying to accomplish. I also picked out a Tarot card from one of my decks as a visual representation of what Im trying to bring into my life!

Here's a visual. An alter can be as simple or complex as you wish, I tried to keep this one simple.

Let me know how you plan to celebrate the New Moon!!

XOXO Chelsea
