Sensory Oracle Deck Review

I received the Sensory Oracle Deck from the lovely lady over at Modern Witchy Woman to review! Be sure to check out her Instagram page @modernwitchywoman

I thought I would preface this review by saying that I mostly work with Tarot Cards vs Oracles Decks so this is a fresh and fun experience for me.

This first thing that really drew my into this deck was the color scheme, I personally love anything rainbow so I was instantly attracted to these cards. Its a smaller deck only 22 cards so it is easy to travel with and store. I thought at first I wouldn't care for the back design as they are not mirrored but in oracle reading I haven't really seen upright and reverse interpretations so it didn't really bother me. The card stock is good quality which is always a happy surprise in indie decks.

The artwork is colorful and instinctual for someone like me who has been reading symbols in the cards for a long time. I could see this deck being a little tricky for beginners if they aren't used to finding meaning in everything, but luckily there is a booklet! It only has one sentence per card but it offers surprisingly profound information. I could see this deck being great for visualization and meditation, the pictures are simple, but represent deep ideas.

This was my first pull from the Sensory Oracle Deck and I was pretty pleased with the message. I feel like it represents a balance of my internal elemental forces and a reminder to always be brave and shine like the Sun that I am! Love that I pulled the Lion, it felt very fitting.

Thanks again to @ModernWitchyWoman for sending me this deck that was clearly made from the heart!

Welcome to my very first BLOG HOP! There are links above to lead you to the blogs before and after mine and a master list so you can see them all in one place! Yay community!

This month’s topic is:

Samhain is the time of the feast of the dead in many cultures. For our topic, I would like you to post about a loved one or someone you admired/disliked (historical figures are fair game) that ties in with Tarot, Lenormand or an Oracle deck.

***Commune, Communicate, Commemorate with those who have gone on before us. ***

The most influential, kindest, and generous man I ever knew, is my Papa Willie. He is also the only person I’ve ever known that has died.

Prior to my Papa passing over, I never had a strong fear of death. Death seemed like a natural transition in life because of my belief in reincarnation, working with the Tarot, and learning Astrology at such a young age. My dreams and thoughts were not haunted by death because I knew there are many more lifetimes to come.

When Papa Willie left us, I lost my hero, my idol and love of my life. It was hard to accept that he had died and was never coming back. The first two months after he was gone my life was a hot mess. I would listen to “Miss American Pie” on repeat and cry endlessly. I couldn’t feel his energy or his spirit anywhere, I went into crisis mode. Soon, I was questioning my intuition and beliefs that I’ve always known were true. When I could eventually compose myself enough to go into public the first person I saw was my personal psychic, Bright Eyes.

There were questions I had for Bright Eyes that I needed help answering. Why I could not feel my Papa around me? Where was he and what could I do about the huge hole he left behind? The reading took place many years ago but I’ll never forget what Bright Eyes said. Bright Eyes told me that Papa Willie was happy about where he moved on to and he was watching over everyone in my family. Bright Eyes said that Papa Willie had been keeping his distance with me because I was more sensitive and in tune with him; he was having a hard time controlling my emotions whenever he was close to me or on my mind. He said I was right all along and to never stop trusting myself. Papa Willie also told me he was proud and to always keep reaching for my goals. The most important message I received was that my Papa was still there for me to talk to and lean on. I just had to learn to listen in a different, or higher way.

Since that reading, my Papa Willie and I have developed the most beautiful spiritual relationship and we commune on a daily basis when I read the Tarot for myself. The altar I keep is dedicated to him and my family speaks his name so often, an outsider may think he’s in the next room and not just with us in spirit. I’m not the type to tell anyone how to deal with their grief or what to believe about death, but this is my experience and you’re welcome to it.

From what I’ve learned, I created a 5 card spread to help anyone get in touch with their spirit guides.

If you have any questions please leave them in the comments!

Tarot vs Oracles

What’s the big difference?

I like to think of the Tarot and Oracle relating to the left and right sides of the brain.

Left Side (Logical)

The Tarot is systematic, logical and only has 78 cards. Tarot has 22 Majors which represent The Fool’s Journey start to finish and 56 Minors or Pip cards that relate to personalities and everyday situations. The Tarot is the older of the two traditions and requires memorization to be effective. Intuition does come into play with Tarot but it is mixed with the study and structure of its history.

Right Side (Intuitive)

Oracle decks are less traditional and have varying themes and meanings. They do not have a set amount of cards in each deck or a set structure. They are read intuitively and leave interpretation to the user in some cases. Where as Tarot is a consistent system that can be read with any version of a Tarot deck, Oracles are unique to themselves. Oracles have specific themes and purposes that do no translate between different deckS usually.

 Personal Preference

I got my hands on my first Tarot deck and book when I was 14. I love the history and student aspect of Tarot. I took the time to learn Tarot like it was my job (which it is now). My Cancer ascending sign makes me a lover of anything with a rich history so I think it’s safe to say that Tarot is my main dish. That being said I do own BOTH! I have different uses for both Tarot and Oracle decks. For personal readings and client readings I use primarily Tarot. I have about 30 different Tarot decks that I keep in rotation so things never get stale (Venus in Gemini). I love to use Oracle decks for meditation, visualization, scrapbooking and journaling. Sometimes when doing daily readings I like to pull one card from the Tarot and one card from an Oracle just depending on my mood.

Which is right for you?

-Is there one you feel more drawn to? Tarot or Oracle?

-Do you like structure or are you more loosey goosey?

-Do you have time to devote to study or are you getting in spirit time in between work, school and family?

-Does the idea of 78 cards feel overwhelming? Yes/No

-Are you planning to use your cards in conjunction with another spiritual practice? Yes/No

-Are you a details person or a big picture person?

{Maybe you’re meant to work with both!}

Reveal and Review: Connected and Free Alchemist Oracle

It finally arrived from Australia! My Alchemist Oracle deck is here and it's everything promised and more!

I am really excited to work with this deck because it is so vastly different from tarot. It has no order, no numbers, no suits and was intentionally designed to be read with your intuition giving new meanings to the cards each time you read them. I have heard people in Tarot/Oracle groups refer to this oracle as being a sister deck to the Wild Unknown Tarot and that is a spot on assessment!

Check out The Star card from Wild Unknown next to the Abundance card from Alchemist Oracle!  Say whaaaaat? These are awesome!

I have always considered my Wild Unknown deck to be obscure and magical and this Alchemist Oracle feels the same way. It speaks through its amazing artwork, choice of keywords and attention to detail.

Here are the nitty gritty facts for all of you who have been pining over this deck but haven't pulled the trigger.

I purchased the deck at www.innerhue.com, the deck itself was $50, shipping from Australia to US was $22.

The Alchemist Oracle arrived in 8 days. It was beautifully wrapped and packaged which you can see in my reveal video below! There was a genuinely sweet, hand written thank you note included as well.

For the full reveal and gorgeous unclose pictures of each card in the deck check out my youtube video below! Don't forget to Subscribe!
